Maybelline’s Lemonade Craze Palette, is it worth the hype?

I have never wanted or tried so hard to get my hands on a beauty product like I have with Maybelline’s Lemonade Craze Palette (£14.99). Hilariously even a tweet of mine featured in an article from The Sun, as I came across the article by chance as I desperately searched how to get the palette in the UK. After a month I signed up to a waiting list on Amazon and waited, and waited… only for the order to be delayed and cancelled. I even tried to order it from the US, without any luck!

Several months later I finally have the palette, well an altered version of the original from Amazon. I guess you could say I’m pretty late to the game with this review…

I have no idea why they decided to change the shape of the palette for the UK market, I honestly prefer the look of the square version. Overall though it’s a nice small(ish) plastic palette.

It’s no secret I LOVE fruity scented makeup and the idea of lemonade scented palette sounds AMAZING. Too bad it doesn’t live up to the hype… The palette has a sort of off-lemon smell, like dried up lemon cleaning wipes, far from the lemony sweet scent I had imagined. Since owning it the smell has definitely faded, I know scent isn’t everything but I was definitely underwhelmed.

The colour scheme is what drew me to the palette in the first place. The colours all just seem to work together, so you really can’t go wrong. When it comes to formula it gets a bit dusty in the fan with some fall out, but blends easily on the lid and I didn’t experience any fall out during application. They aren’t the most pigmented shadows I’ve worked with but they’re really good for the price I paid. With swatches some shades look a little lack lustre, personally I feel the formula just picks up better with a brush, anyway we all know swatches aren’t always the best representation of shadows anyway!

Here’s a look I did today on the hottest day of the year (I know I’m nuts!)… Overall the scent was a let down but the concept, the colours and shadow payoff, I can see why there was such a buzz around this palette. For me it was worth the wait!

Have you tried this palette? What over hyped product should I review next?- Be sure to comment to let me know! ♥︎
