Tips from a Broke Makeup Addict (Part 1)

A lot of you already know this, but I’m a student and have only started to be obsessed with the wonderful world of makeup the last seven months. Being a student means I don’t have a disposable income as I live off a loan and I need to eat! So what do I do when I’m tired of my old makeup, when I need to change up my look a bit? Or when I’ve run out of something?-But, can’t afford something new.

Tip from a Broke Makeup Addict

Here are a few tips from a student makeup addict…

-Run out of mascara? Or in my case lost it… Try using your liquid eyeliner as mascara, it takes a LONG time and doesn’t look as good as mascara, but it’s a quick fix if you need something for your lashes.Lipsticks

-Use your mascara as eyeliner, obviously don’t use the mascara brush! You’ll have to dip a smaller brush into the product.

Blend different lipsticks together on your lips or if they are liquid in a small pot to make new shades. Or ombre your lips.

-Put a sheer gloss over lipstick to give the appearance of a pigmented gloss.

-Put highlighter on top of your lipstick.

Highlighters can be used as eyeshadow and vice versa.

-No blush? Use an eyeshadow instead.

I know some of these aren’t as good as the real deal, I’m not saying everyone needs to stop with eyeliner and just use mascara, it’s just a quick fix when you’ve run out and you can’t buy a replacement. I do think that highlighters are so versatile and can come in some beautiful shades, I’ve been using them as eyeshadows before I even owned my first palette!

Do you have any tips for when you’re out of makeup, but can’t afford anything new?- Be sure to comment to let me know.

  1. I also sometimes use eyeshadows as contours and bronzers because there’s always one cool toned and one warm toned brown in pretty much any neutral palette! Loved your post x

    1. Thank you so much! My boyfriend normally does my pictures, but I did this one so it means a lot :p haha.. Good to know my tips aren’t too bizarre and people already do some of them 🙂

  2. I’ve never used eyeshadow for blush before! I usually use lipstick, but I’m going to have to try this way out, especially because I randomly have a huge pan of pink blush that I never put on my lids!

  3. These were all so helpful. I use highlighters as eyeshadow really often. One of my favorite tricks is to make new lipstick out of eyeshadow shades that I don’t use often, it’s super easy!
